Worried About Keeping Your Friends When You Have A Newborn?
Accept Help From Your Friends When They Offer
They want to come over to help; They want to bring over frozen dinners they have put together for you to put in your freezer. For the first few weeks, you two will be so tired that you won't feel like going out. You probably won't even feel like showering, so forget going out. The answer: let your friends bring over the casseroles and lasagnas. It's ok that one of sleeps or feeds baby while the other one visits with friends. Visiting doesn't mean YOU actually have to entertain anyone. They understand that. Share some coffee or tea with your pals while your partner tries to catch up on some sleep. By taking pictures during these visits and posting them on social networking sites, your friends can help you stay in touch with the outside world. My wife and I have a two-year-old; she was in the NICU for ten days when she was born because of an infection. My friends came over to help, and we were grateful every time they did.
Catch Up On Your Rest - Outside Support Will Help
Remember to show your thanks for all this support. You can use social networking sites or email for this. It isn't necessary to tell people how tired or busy you have been - they know, just let them know how much their thoughts and goodwill have meant to you while you are settling in. They will understand, and you are sharing with your pictures, post cards and emails. Being rested will help get you out of bed and back into the grownup world. You might think about going out one at a time - but after two weeks - go ahead and bring baby with you.
Taking the Baby Along - Inventory your Baby Bag
Get your rest and take your vitamins, or you won't feel like going out. New parents are notoriously lax in their sleep and nutrition habits. To ensure you get enough rest - set up a feeding and sleeping schedule, taking turns and taking care that your partner is well rested. To ensure that your nutrition is sound, drink plenty of water, keep some fresh fruits and veggies in the house and take a multivitamin, preferably one with a B-complex. When you are ready to go out with friends, be prepared by making a list of things you need and stocking your diaper bag before you go.
