Ways To Ascertain The Conception Date Of A Baby
One of the first things a woman wants to know when they discover they are pregnant is what their due date is. The easiest way to discover this is to make a calculation based on the date of conception. Many women do not know this and need to learn how to discover the conception date of a baby.
The start of a pregnancy is classed as about two weeks before the date of conception. This is due to the fact that doctors and midwives use the start of your last menstrual period as the first date of your pregnancy. They then calculate your due date based on this.
You are unlikely to know when your conception date if your baby was conceived through natural methods. However if you have undergone fertility treatment or used IVF to help you get pregnant then there is a good chance that you know when you conceived. This is due to you being closely monitored throughout your treatment.
A woman is at the height of her fertility during the middle of her cycle. Therefore it is a fair assumption that most women conceive during this time. Most fertility calculators work this out by assuming two important factors, that you have a 28 day cycle and that you conceived two weeks after your last period started.
There are more accurate ways to work out the date you conceived. Ovulation is the key to this because conception needs to take place within 24 hours of an egg being released. If you know your ovulation pattern then you will be able to predict your conception date.
However long your monthly cycle is almost all women have a luteal phase of fourteen days. This is the name given to the second part of your cycle which begins after ovulation. You can work out when you are ovulating by subtracting fourteen days from the beginning of menstruation. Then your conception date is either the day you ovulate or the day after this.
Many people believe that the day you have intercourse is the day that you conceive. It is possible for these days to be different because sperm can actually survive in the body for five days. Therefore depending on the days you are ovulating it is possible for you to conceive up to five days after you have intercourse.
If you have your due date then a simple way to work out the date of conception is to use an online conception calculator. Many websites have these and they are very easy to use. You just input your due date and the calculator will work out your most likely date of conception. You can also do this manually by taking your due date and subtracting 266 days. This number takes into account the total of 280 days of pregnancy minus the 14 days before you ovulated and conceived.
If you are simply looking to know when you conceived so that you can work out when you are due then it would be easier to use a special calculator to determine your due date. These calculate your due date from the beginning of your last period and can be found on many internet sites.
