Healthy Eating Habits For Your Developing Baby

A healthy, balanced diet is absolutely vital to the health of your developing baby. Pregnancy is the most important time in your life to create nutritious eating habits. Your baby is relying on you to supply the nutrients it needs to grow healthy and strong, and the more toxins and preservatives you allow to enter your body, the weaker your baby becomes the more likely it is to experience medical problems.

If you are an expecting mother, then it is crucial you develop a healthy eating plan so that both you and your baby are physically and mentally nourished. In a world saturated in trans fats, sugar, and fast food, nutritious eating habits are becoming a rarity, but that doesn't mean they aren't possible. Vitamins and minerals are what build up your new baby's body, so it is important that you get them on a daily basis. One way of ensuring that you get the folic acid, iron, and protein that you need is to take a prenatal vitamin daily. This will keep the healthy nutrients flowing to your baby even if you have a day in which your diet wasn't a beacon of nutrition.

Create a healthy diet that is based on a wide variety of foods-take the time to branch outside of the comfort food zone and try some new and nutritious foods. Grains, proteins, fruits, and especially green vegetables will give you the opportunity to fill your body with the diverse vitamins and minerals you and your baby need.

When you get sick, it affects your baby, so it is crucial to stay as healthy as possible during pregnancy. This means keeping your immune system strong, and one of the best immune boosters is vitamin C. You should eat foods that are rich in vitamin C daily, such as broccoli, oranges, grapefruit, green peppers, and Brussels sprouts.

Protein, protein, protein!! You need protein and so does your developing baby. Beans, legumes, meat, and poultry are all excellent sources of protein and you should make sure to incorporate them into your diet on a daily basis-protein is the building block that constructs our muscles, nails, hair, hormones, and enzymes etc. You need a lot of it!

Avoid the junk food trap. Pregnancy is a time when you can become particularly susceptible to the junk food trap because it is easy and convenient when you are low on energy or simply want to indulge. However, the sugars, fats, and preservatives in fast food and other forms of processed food contribute nothing to your baby in only stop you from eating the mineral and vitamin rich foods that you need. There is nothing wrong with indulging in a late night Ben and Jerry's, but don't make it a regular part of your pregnancy diet.

Pregnancy is the one time in your life when your eating habits really aren't all about you as an individual-they have a direct effect on the life growing inside of you. While you can never be a perfect eater, you can be a smart and nutritious eater. If you follow the advice above, you will give your baby a better chance for a healthy future while simultaneously developing nutritious eating habits that can stay with you a lifetime.
