Fertility Re-visited
The reasons men and women become infertile are many. One needs treatment to overcome this problem. Infertility in women may be caused by endometriosis, insufficient ovaries, improper ovulation and low progesterone levels. In men this may be caused by low sperm count and motility, STD, injury or chronic diseases, obstruction of the reproductive tract and ageing.
Most infertility disorders can be treated by medical help except aging. These treatments can be expensive and have adverse side effects which would need separate medical treatment. IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) and ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) are among the better methods for treating infertility. In IVF, a hormonally controlled ovulation procedure, the egg cells are fertilized externally, in a fluid medium and then transferred to the womb. In ICSI, a single sperm is directly injected into the egg. These treatments are recommended when all other methods have failed. This process is different from the biological process of conception, in that the eggs are removed by an embryologist from the woman's ovary, fertilizing them in a lab and then transferring it to the uterus. In the natural, biological process, the stronger sperm penetrates the egg. The healthier sperm and egg get selected naturally. In the artificial process the danger is that the embryologist may fail to select stronger and healthier sperm and egg and this may lead to genetic disorders in the child, even at a later stage.
Alternative techniques using a holistic approach, that cures secondary infertility, is fast gaining acceptance as they have little or no side effects. One such technique is the acupuncture method. Auricular (ear acupuncture) is found to be very effective in treating female infertility caused by an ovarian malfunction. Here the hormonal message is quickly and effectively transmitted from the brain to the ovary. Studies show that women who underwent this technique 30 times in 3 months have shown better results than those who underwent conventional hormonal therapy and with no side effects.
Auricular or ear acupuncture has been found to be very effective in treating female infertility caused by ovarian disorders. In this method there is an excellent hormonal signal transmission from the brain to the ovary. Trials have shown that women who tried hormonal therapy had side effects while the ones who took the acupuncture treatment about 30 times in 3months responded successfully. Diet and lifestyle changes are paramount in the alternative fertility treatment techniques. Anything containing caffeine, like coffee, chocolate, cocoa, green tea is prohibited. Same is the case with black tea and colored soft drinks. These are harmful for conception. Researchers say that just one and a half cup of coffee is sure to delay a woman conceiving. Coffee is bad news for people who want infertility treatment.
Fish eaters should note that fish which is contaminated with PCB (Polychlorinated Biphenyls) drastically reduces the ability to conceive. According to a study, women who consumed PCB contaminated fish (from Lake Ontario) more than once found that they had become less fertile within a month.
Chinese medicines, acupuncture and the holistic method of treatment of infertility have been found to be more superior to the conventional methods. The holistic method gets to the bottom of the problem and only then it charts out the treatment that is physical, spiritual and emotional. The conventional method only investigates the physical. While the conventional method fails to identify and eliminate the real cause and also causes side effects, the holistic method prescribes a natural remedy, with no side effects, once the real cause is identified.
