Making your first appointment with an obstetrician or gynecologist can be a scary prospect for all first time moms. Many of us either do not know what should be expected or are a little nervous at having somebody getting so close and private with your nether regions.

Although an intimidating prospect, visiting an OBGYN is crucial for your pregnancy care. Whether selecting to have a natural birth or caesarean section in a public infirmary or private hospital, your obstetrician or gynecologist will be your go to guy for any and all questions you will have about your pregnancy.

Most modern practitioners of obstetrics are also qualified in gynecology, so you can put all of your trust and trust in the one pro to take care of you and your baby. But what is the difference between the two?

Although now frequently combined into one profession, obstetricians and gynecologists specialize in various stages of pregnancy and child birth. Gynecological studies focus on the complete female reproductive system and are therefore required in the beginning stages of pregnancy to observe the health of the mother's interior organs.

The crossover from gynecology to obstetrics technically occurs about half way through the pregnancy as the fetus develops and more focus is placed on the health of the baby. Obstetricians look after the mom and baby's health all though it's development, through childbirth and even post natal care. They are the professionals when it comes to talking about delivery options and possible complications.

Having a professional by your side to help through the trials and tribulations of pregnancy is a welcome comfort, and OBGYNs are there to respond to any and all of your questions, from early morning nausea to baby kicks. Each and every single pregnancy is different, so whether you are carrying your first baby or your fifth, you are sure to have questions and concerns. Pregnancy is a wonderful and natural thing, so take the anxiety away by speaking to your OBGYN.

Find an OBGYN in your neighborhood with dLook, your local online business index.

One condition that hits many moms is postpartum depression.

When postpartum depression is left untreated it can seriously impact the mother-child relationship.

Recognizing that you are suffering from postpartum depression is an important first step to ensuring you get on the pathway to recovery.

Symptoms

The symptoms of postpartum depression can vary, but generally there are a few symptoms that are quite common.

Typically mothers find they cry more easily, and have difficulty sleeping or feel irritated and overly emotional. They may find they also have feelings as though they are not adequate parents or that they are not capable of dealing with the stress of having a child. Some mothers also find they have constant nagging worries about their baby's health and well-being, which don't go away with time.

When postpartum depression is left untreated for several weeks, the condition may worsen and eventually develop into postpartum psychosis - the most serious condition that requires quick and immediate treatment.

When this is the case, the woman may start having delusions, or hallucinations, as well as show other mood disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder, or psychosis.

Typically women who are thinking suicidal thoughts or are considering hurting their young child will only do so when they have moved into this stage, which is why immediate treatment by a medical professional is needed.

Baby Blues

If you feel as though you may be suffering from "baby blues," a common feeling new moms have in the weeks after childbirth, there are several ways you can go about treating baby blues at home.

Some self-care practices include:

- Surrounding yourself with supportive family members who you feel you can talk with comfortably

- Eating right and exercising

- Getting adequate rest

- Getting plenty of fresh air

- Forming bonds with other new mothers

Keep these points in mind about postpartum depression. If you feel as though you suffer from any of the above, seek professional help. There are numerous resources for postpartum depression. Start with your doctor and be honest about your feelings and state of mind.

When injuries occur during birth it can be extremely worrying and difficult for a new mother to see their child in pain. These problems sometimes do happen but the doctors will be able to help your baby recover and in most cases the child will heal without the need of surgery or long-lasting damage.

In many births the baby will arrive unharmed, but it is not too uncommon for some kind of problem to arise. One which is quite a regular issue is a fracture in the clavicle bone. This is the bone which attaches the shoulder to the chest known as the collarbone. A child can recover from this quickly as their bones are quick to recover. It will be necessary for the infant to have a wrapping which will keep the arm strapped to the chest for around four weeks.

Sometimes a baby may suffer from Brachial Plexus injuries when the head and arm are pulled in opposite directions. These are a group of nerves which are positioned under the collar bone.

If after three to six months there is still weakness apparent in the arm then it might be suggested to have surgery. This is not always the case as it is possible that the damage will repair itself.

It is common that they will heal nicely and lead to a full recovery. If the weakness is still evident after around three to six months then your doctor may recommend a surgical procedure to help solve the problem.

One of the rarer problems that might arise during childbirth involves the legs. If the leg is twisted or pulled in a very awkward manner then the femur bone may become fractured or broken. This is the bone which is in the thigh which can mean that the child may suffer from pain when being moved, washed or being changed.

To help the bone to heal correctly the baby will need to wear a harness that is especially designed for newborns called the Pavlik harness. The recovery period is usually around four weeks. Not all problems are as severe as the above. There are cases where babies will develop facial bruises or caput succedaneum. This is swelling of soft tissues on the scalp and can be caused by vacuum extraction or natural birth. The swelling is quick to go down and can be completely gone within a few days.

Expectant parents always hope for a perfect and healthy delivery, but when accidents occur, a birth trauma lawyer should be retained to provide representation and counsel.

Giving birth to a child is a tricky business. During the 18th century it was downright dangerous, especially if one was a displaced slave from West Africa forced to work on a Caribbean plantation. Rituals pertaining to birth and the protection of the infant gradually evolved out of African folktales and spiritual beliefs. The mother was protected similarly. Let's take a look at a few of the birth rituals still found in use in Jamaica.

Before women began to go to hospitals for their childbirth, they stayed in the home and were assisted by midwives. A specific room in the house was prepared according to tradition. A bible opened to any page must have been present. When delivery began, a midwife coated the mother's belly in castor oil to help protect the child from toxins. After delivery both mother and child were given castor oil orally. Nutmeg was then caked on the navel of the infant to assist in healing. The midwife then blew tobacco smoke into the eyes of the child, to 'purify' their spirit. When mother and child were comfortable the midwife washed her face with rum, perhaps as a disinfectant.

The next eight days were very important for mother and child. They were to be protected at all costs from evil spirits and the trauma of childbirth itself. The instrument used to cut the umbilical cord was kept in the room and watched in case it was used to harm anyone. The infant was marked with blue for protection, and a foul-smelling concoction was rubbed on the child to stave off evil. When it was time for a bath, the water contained rum and a silver coin from the child's father.

On the tenth day of the infant's life, the mother carried her child outside for greetings. There is an old West African belief that until after the eighth day of a child's life, their soul is not fully developed. If the infant died during those eight days, then it was believed to be an wicked spirit. On the tenth day it was safe to bring the child out and give it a name. The next step in receiving a child into the world is the burial of the afterbirth and umbilical cord. After burial, a tree is planted on the spot and is said to represent the beginning of the child's life. As the child grows older he or she is responsible for caring for the Birth Tree, so they may have a successful life.

Through the command of medical standards around the world, many birth rituals have been lost or forgotten. The trade-off is a lower infant mortality rate, which is undoubtedly very important. However, would it not be fortunate to incorporate some of those ancient rituals into modern medicine?

For some expecting women, giving birth is a relatively straightforward experience but for most the process invokes tedious hours of labor leaving them ecstatic at the birth of their new child but also exhausted from the method. In modern society a woman typically doesn't have much time to rest and recuperate afterwards. She needs to get back to work quickly at a time also she is facing added pressure to get rid of the weight gained when carrying a baby.

In addition, having to breastfeed and nurse a newly born many times a night can be exhausting. At this time its important a new mother try to keep the weight of her new responsibilities from overpowering her. Post-natal massage might just be the solution to her needs. Post-natal massage therapy offers multiple benefits including relaxation, stress management, relieving aches and pains, hastening the decreasing of liquid retention, and helping to improve body tone.

In numerous parts of Pacific Rim girls prebook sessions with a massage consultant for post-natal massage before birth. The treatment they receive is a normal one which has been passed down over a few generations. Massage oil applied to the belly and a tummy wrap is used to help clear water retention, shrink the stomach, and aid in reducing weight.

For a ma which has delivered her baby naturally, it is generally safe to go for a post-natal massage though you may wish to wait a couple of weeks after giving birth and it is often a good concept to make checks with your health care provider. For those that delivered by caesarian, be totally sure to consult your professional massage therapist or your doctor first.

Post-natal massage provides a sense of continuing comfort for the new mother. The aim of the massage is to give nurturing and emotional support as well as relieve the muscle strain of work and childbirth. Whether sufficiently lucky to conceive a boy or a girl, any lady who has given birth would agree these things are always most welcome.

When trying to get pregnant more couples are becoming interested in baby gender selection and specifically how to conceive a boy or a girl. To learn more about how to conceive a boy or a girl please visit www.conceiveaboyorgirl.com

When you are thinking about laser stretch mark removal before and after pictures will tell you if you have had the results you were in search of. The best way to accomplish this is to take a picture of your stretch marks before the procedure and then when you have healed. There ought to be a marked difference in their appearance.

Laser removal of stretch marks was deemed safe by the FDA back in 2002. Just like any surgery there are risks and unwanted side effects involved and you should always get your procedure performed by a qualified professional. Make sure the surgeon you select is board certified and is willing to show you laser stretch mark removal before and after pictures of clients they have had in earlier years. If they are unwilling to show these pictures, then proceed to someone who will.

Stretch marks occur on the skin as a result of the skin being over-stretched for some amount of time. Small tears in the collagen and elastin fibers of the skin is the cause. These elastin and collagen fibers just can't keep up with the stretching of the skin and when torn have a difficult time restoring themselves. In fact, they often do not and you are left with stretch marks.

To start with, they may be red or purple in color and ultimately they do fade to white, as with every other scar on the body. They will often even have a silvery sheen to them. Once you have them, they can be difficult to get rid of and might not completely disappear, so avoidance is best. If that doesn't do the trick, you may contemplate having some laser surgery to reduce their appearance.

The way it works is, the laser is passed across the area and pulsed several times. As the laser works, it energizes the collagen and elastin fibers to make more, and they will fill in the areas and help shrink the existing scars at the same time.

Some women elect to try lotions and creams called body butter that basically do the same task. Increased production of collagen and elastin fibers is vital. Healthy skin does that by itself and if you improve the health of the skin with diet, exercise and also the use of these creams, you may find you don't need the cosmetic laser treatments.

Sometimes the topical creams are simply not enough though, and there is a need for further exploration to fix the scar. That is where the surgeon comes in. Among the best methods to find a surgeon would be to ask people you know for referrals. Maybe someone you know has had good results with this same type of procedure. If so, ask them about what they experienced then call for the first consultation.

The surgeon should go over all of your options, explain to you laser stretch mark removal before and after photographs and then you can make your informed decision about what suits your situation.

Before you go along the surgery route, why don't you try a free trial of Dermology?

A lot of people who've been pregnant will tell you that continually altering moods and also becoming emotionally charged is reasonably prevalent. Bodily hormones are usually to blame here. They can result in you experiencing highs and lows - intense swift changes in moods.

Things should be settling down at the moment, mainly in your relationship with your husband. The both of you are feeling committed and the two of you have got your feet rooted and know where you want to be. You are likely to be making useful plans, like where the baby will sleep at night, and deciding on just what you have to acquire and the things you should do to your house.

During this period, you are aware that the pregnancy is certainly going well and there's nothing to worry about. The probabilities of miscarriage are tremendously minimized and that early on sickness as well as exhaustion have almost certainly eased off, leaving most women with a sensation of well-being as well as hope.

On the other hand, it is actually quite typical for females to be cheerful one minute, and then distressed the next. Women undergo this, but some fair much better than others. Certain women are entirely settled about the entire affair while some take things terribly and turn out to be emotionally unstable. Sometimes apparently small matters may well trigger these symptoms.

Being pregnant and looking forward to your future job as a mom could bring up hard problems from your childhood. Sentiments of anger, sadness as well as guilt that may have laid dormant for years could now surface. You could also gain a greater understanding of why your father and mother did the things they did when they had you.

It is crucial that you share your inner thoughts and get through all conflicting troubles. Open up and talk to your closest friend, or perhaps confide in your other half. Occasionally, it might be helpful to see a counselor or therapist for additional assistance.

Many people may respond positively after you tell them that you are expecting a baby, however, some may not. With regards to those that are less enthusiastic, do not worry about them too much. Their lack of concern is usually related to their private problems, and it has got absolutely nothing to do with you or your baby. For example, some folks that aren't able to have babies of their own would of course feel a touch depressed if you shower them with your thrilling news - this is quite natural.

Simply role play mentally and imagine each of the comforting answers you would probably acquire from someone who boasts a positive ambiance. For example, you might inquire: labor is likely to be awful, do you think I pull through it? Well, hundreds upon thousands of women manage. Am I Going To even function properly with so little sleep at night? You can certainly take catnaps as well as do far less about your house than you have been previously used to doing. Will my newborn starve due to my failure to feed him or her? Breast-feeding does not always come naturally, but there will be people to help and advice you. In reality, a lot of mothers have raised their infants by means of bottle-feeding solely. There's a resolution, to each and every situation as you can see.

The key point to note here is , being worried is kind of pointless. Try to not overwhelm yourself with problems that have not yet come to pass. Seek the counsel of your physician if you ever feel you need to.

can often feel stumped when they're reviewing their baby essentials checklist. I'm sure you've perceived that awareness . The probable gut reaction to knowing that your expectant date is becoming forevermore approaching whereby terror can begin to set about as you start to go through your check list in order to make sure you really do have every single essential you are going to require at hand whenever you get back at your home with your new born baby.

You'll need to be extensively certain you're able to offer your new son/daughter your finest first impression that you're ever likely lay out there. You really ought to have things prepared and have your newborns nursery room ready and fully equipped with each, every and all the baby essentials your newborn son/daughter is likely to require.

I recall the sheer stress and panic of my very first kid. Not that I'm suggesting that our very first was at all an exception to the rule as bringing each of my 4 children home that very 1st time for each occasion was always as extensively important as our last kid. Each time I can still recall going through the unchanging cycle...

Do I have all the essentials ready?...is all our essentials there?

Even after giving birth to our 2nd child we did have tons of dinky extras and the accessories from our older kids able to be dished out again sort of thing, but, it still did not offer the same feeling to offer up some of the older gifts and besides there are just special baby items that you simply can't pass down. Furthermore, that's not to mention if they are not the same sex.

The actual list for each time grew and there was 1 single thing that kept happening that was...the particular items which I had felt were baby necessities which I ought to have ready were, to an extent, simply the cherry on top type of thing, that would ensure our cute little newly born would put simply... be adorned the welcome experienced whenever our family got back at the family house.

It is simple to actually begin to stray away from your baby essentials checklist when you could finally end up with oodles of goodies which you don't truly require and in turn you may wind up missing out some of the concrete fundamental bits and bobs you really ought to have noted down within your baby essentials checklist.

Here is just a list of 3 quick ideas to glance over and make sure you have taken into account...

A Protective Insect Net

This is surely 1 of those baby items that I did not have at the beginning and whenever the day would come around to visit our family we soon found that we were consistently around the babies stroller to get the flies and all away from our little one.

It was mainly in the warmer days when the mosquitoes are sure to be around the greatest. Your newborns immune system isn't going to be fully developed at this early stage and it is not a good time now for you to learn that they're sensitive to bees, mosquitoes etc.

Since you know you are going to be careful of your newborn baby, so, it might be a great idea for to get a protective insect net on your baby essentials checklist. I wouldn't have gone without one.

Head Support, Cushioning and also Increased Padding For The Car-seat

We realize that we really have to drive our precious little ones risk-free. It is exactly why we realize that an extremely top quality car-seat is critical. It's a must to ensure that they meet all health and safety specifications as well. (which these products should)

The dilemma here is that not really pretty much all baby car-seats are equipped with comfort and luxury in mind meant for our tiny newborn baby. Our little ones don't have control of their heads at this stage. Acquiring a decent smooth head support in your child car-seat is precisely what they will need.

Hence a supreme quality child car-seat should be on the baby essentials checklist, but, you may make life simpler by ensuring there is a cozy head support integrated or else you can buy high quality head support for almost all baby car seats.

It is most definitely some thing I think of today for being a significant baby accessory.

... Remember to get...

A set of Safety Mittens

Baby fingernails and toenails are incredibly lengthy and jagged, they grow rapidly. Back when I was brand new Mama, I know I used to be rather nervous to cut the small nails right away and discovered pretty earlier on they tend to snag at their face. Regarding their lack of control they've got no idea they can be hurting their-selves and often will scrape and scar their faces. I learned swiftly with our 2nd child.

A pair of safety mittens are typically a very important item to provide your newly born baby up until you feel relaxed cutting their fingernails and toenails your self. The earlier you familiarize them to the mittens the less likely they could be to continually try and just take their mittens off.

The above is only a brisk rundown for a few things I consider ought to be included as part of your baby essentials checklist, but seriously, there is always a multitude of small obscure stuff that just help to make your life easier including your new baby to get the best of welcomes to your new family, it truly is far too much to add in everything all in 1 single post.

There are a bunch more that could be worthwhile thinking about.

To obtain the entire breakdown about what to include within your baby essentials checklist, just jump over to http://www.babyessentialschecklist.org as there's oodles more things which can be obscure but nevertheless...Important. Check the page previously mentioned to take a look.

Gifts (which we talk about further on in this book) are rather integral to baby showers; it's quite hard to imagine one without gifts. Since that is the case, whether a relative requests them from those attending the baby shower, or a non-relative requests them, arguably isn't important to those attending. They're likely focused on what the baby shower should focus on: the mother-to-be, and a wonderful opportunity to share in her joy.

Now, the real problem here is simply that there isn't a clear answer to the question: when should the shower happen? The answer to this will almost always depend on factors that are specific to the mother-to-be, the guests, and other issues.

Let's start with mother-to-be. She may have a preference about when the shower should be held; and this preference should be heeded. The father-to-be might also provide input here, which is wonderful and should be part of the overall decision-making process (we take a closer look at "couples" baby-showers

The problem is, simply, that while it would be ideal to invite everyone who would want to attend, that's just not practical; either economically, or simply in terms of planning. Ultimately, decisions will have to be made, and if you can work with the parents-to-be to make these decisions, the chances of making wise ones will increase. Once you've figured out who to invite - and this process can take a few days of thinking and re-thinking - the next step is to send out the invitations. Ensure that you do this well in advance of the baby shower. There are two major reasons for this.

To Gift Registry Or Not To Gift Registry This is another one of those fun decisions that involve the mother-to-be, and probably the father-to-be, as well. Gift registries are, generally speaking, wonderful inventions because the conveniently solve a lot of potentially confusing problems, such as:

What will the parents-to-be want as a gift? What gift items have already been purchased by other invitees? What price range is appropriate? So with all of this evidence in favor of gift registries, why might someone not use one? Well, there are few reasons. The simplest reason is one of preference. Some people simply don't want to limit the range of things that guests might buy; especially if some gifts aren't typically found in stores that offer registries. For example, some artistic guests may want to create something for the baby; perhaps wooden mobile, or a beautiful picture to hang in the baby's room.

To help deal with this situation, it's possible for you (as the organizer) for informally recommend that people band together to buy certain bigger ticket items, like a crib or a stroller. In this way, people can still stay within their budget limitations, yet purchase something that the parents want, and indeed, need (since babies can be very expensive!).

Naturally, you can't be expected to plan ahead for every eventuality. You won't know, for instance, that one of the guests had a very traumatic piata experience as a child, and therefore runs out of the room screaming when she sees one of them flying through the air. So what should you do when you can't know everything that there is to know?

Decorated with fancy ribbons (if you know the baby's gender, go for typical colors such as blue and pink). Votives and scented candles are especially a great bargain since they come in sets and are cost-effective baby shower party favor ideas that can be personalized for the guests. For those with a hobby such as gardening, the lawn is the best place to hunt for naturally beautiful party favors that guests at a baby shower are sure to love and remember you and your special occasion by: pick seasonal plants and flowers for gifting as party favors. Get small seedling pots; grafting a stem and planting it in the chosen container won't take long and finishing off with a bow is the best way to give something that is eco-friendly and requires tender, loving care -just like babies do, so it's reminiscent of the occasion too!

So, go ahead and get out that burst of creativity just raring to set the guests ablaze with your innovative styling, ideation and presentation of baby shower party favors you made yourself.

These free printable baby shower games are easier to comprehend and play. The baby shower appears more organized and well managed than the regular baby shower games available in the market, and will be found in every baby shower in the neighborhood. Getting your own baby shower games from the net will make your baby shower look more customized.

Free printable baby shower games are distinctly better than the free games available in the market. The graphics of the free printable versions can be altered and customized as compared to the other printed free games. Readily available free shower games are not so easy to comprehend and they lack in creativity and ideas.

first place. However, customized printable baby shower games gives the right impression that he hostess has put in some effort into the planning of the party. Actually, free baby shower games are not that superior-looking. But the fact that it looks better than those that are given for free or is more presentable than those that are written in a sheet of torn leaf of a notebook.

Baby Shower Cakes - Store Bought So what if you are not skilled in the art of cake decorating. Not a lot of people are. That is why store bought cakes are available and yes, a baby shower cake can be store bought. Specialty shops can customize their inventory to match the theme of the party for the baby shower.

Anybody who is anybody loves babies, finding them cute, adorable and loving. People love to look at baby pictures. It would definitely attract attention if you put a baby clip art on a wedding invitation or a flyer of some type.

Rules To Remember When Doing Clip Art Projects A good rule to remember is to use only one baby clip art theme for the project. If you are sending invitations as well as the envelopes, using the same clip art would make it more organized and professional looking.

When a couple's plan to extend their family comes true, it is a joyful occasion for their family. A part of that joy extends to when the mom to be and sometimes the father too is thrown a baby shower by their friends and family. This allows them to share in the couple's excitement and happiness.

1. Consider the soon to be mother's personality when choosing Even though, often times, it is the friends or relatives that are throwing the party and preparing the invitations, they should still think about the character of the mother when they narrow the choices down.

Planning a baby shower can be overwhelming but with carefully planned ideas and other considerations, the occasion will be one to remember because of the favors and time it took to plan. Some say that other events come close to a baby shower; but that really isn't true. Baby showers are a time to reflect on the delight of a newborn who will be welcomed into the world.

Personalized Baby Shower Gift Basket A gift basket is a wonderful idea for a couple expecting a baby. These gift baskets are practically all in ones for some things a mother will need whether it is a tub/bathroom gift basket or even just a clothes gift basket.

Mothers-to-be are having issues when it comes to the child birth and processes. When you're working through them, you have to understand that it is all about balancing things out in your life so that you can deal with issues of having a wonderful experience of giving birth, as well is the painful side effects of giving birth. This is something that can take a very big hold on a woman's body, but there are many different types of remedies and complementary therapies out there that can help her today. So let's get started with some of this new work.

Midwives are the most common thing that many people believe in when you refer to different types of alternative methods for childbirth. I know it was when I gave birth to my two children. There is nothing wrong with this, but I'm also suggesting to incorporate some other type of alternative therapy in your life to help ease these issues for mom and baby alike. There are many different things you can combine that are both safe for the mother and the child at the same time.

The first thing that would like to suggest is to work with energy healing formats during this child birthing session. If the mother has been properly attuned to a Reiki energy healing form, she can send a self-healing for her and the baby's that this can be eased and the pain can be reduced during the labor process. If the mother has been attuned during her pregnancy, the baby will also have access to the self-healing energy. This can complement both mother and baby.

Adding crystal healing into your child birthing session is also another interesting way to add alternative therapies into your life. When you want to work with crystal healing during this time, make sure to have a cleansed and programmed Moonstone while you're giving birth that this can help ease all of these issues that you're facing.

Have fun with this new experience in your life, work with these new energies, respect the process, and enjoy all the benefits that you will share.
