Baby Shower Etiquette

Baby showers have been very popular and are one tradition that almost all mothers-to-be from almost all countries practice. Since baby shower is not only gift giving but also a social event. It is for this reason that some etiquette should be observed. These etiquettes may vary depending on your country but the following is the most common ones.

1. The perfect time of observing baby shower party is the few days before the baby birth. Traditionally it is organized one or two months before the baby birth. Some people are also seen observing the party after the baby birth. There are some benefits to organize the party before the baby birth. It gives some time to the mother to buy some essential items which are not gifted in the party.

2. It is an age old tradition that a friend of the new mother hosts the baby shower. But the party can be hosted by relatives and colleagues.

3. Baby shower is not arranged only for the first baby. Many people arrange the party for the subsequent babies too. Every mother has a reason behind baby shower; so, I believe there is nothing wrong celebrating the parties for the subsequent babies.

4. The best gift for a baby shower is something with is related to the newborn babies. Choosing neutral colors is important to remove the biasness between a male child and a female one. The things that are used for every day purposes for the baby would be the best gifts like bibs, baby blankets, baby mosquito nets, diapers or feeders.

5. The arrangement of games during the baby shower is helpful for ice breaking. Serving foods and beverages are also important issues for the party. Many hosts are seen using a book for writing down the well wishes of the guests to the mother and baby. It is definitely a cool idea.

6. While inviting guests the accommodation capacity of the venue should be measured. Normally few guests are invited before the child birth and bigger group is invited after the child birth.

7. A baby shower is usually held during weekend since that is the most convenient day for the visitors and would normally last two to three hours. The time may be extended especially if everything is doing well.

8. The person hosting should shoulder the expenses on food and other things.

9. It is a good idea to inform the pregnant about the party at least few weeks before the party as hearing surprises is not helpful for the sick health.

10. Printed invitation card is not necessary. Stationeries or greeting cards would do the invitation job. The cards should be sent minimum 3 weeks before the party. Thus, the guests will get much time for RSVP. One more thing- remember to include the directions.

11. A theme for the party is not that necessary but this adds life to a party. Wearing costumes and decorating the venue gives a happy and celebrating atmosphere.

12. Welcoming the guests at the time of their arrival and thanking them at the time of their departure are also important for the party. The host should be ever present in the party.
