It is extremely common for a new mum to find herself over-weight after having her baby, and one of the most popular internet searches for weight loss is in fact 'How Do I Get Slim Again After Pregnancy?'

Contrary to the normal weight gain problems that most people face, increasing weight and body fat when pregnant is not really through lack of care and is just a by product of child birth. It would be wrong to criticise a mum to be over her eating habits when pregnant, because along with the obvious reasons why eating is good, there are also cravings and hormones to contend with. A healthy appetite should be encouraged even if it does mean adding on those extra pounds.

Where the trouble really begins with becoming slim again is once the baby has arrived and it is not as easy as you might think. Yes, plenty of energy is spent looking after the new family member but quite often it is not enough to shed those now 'well ingrained' extra pounds. Lack of routine becomes a big problem so new mums tend to just eat when they can and because you are probably eating on the fly the the other problem is that healthy food goes out of the window and are replaced by fast food snacks.

So what can a new mum do to try and become slim after being pregnant? There are a few simple things that will help.

We have already mentioned routing and diet, but this is key. It is very easy to just snack on unhealthy junk food or fast food that are going to be full of fat and sugar. This is a big 'NO NO!' Try as best you can to plan when you eat, but if you do end up snacking the try and have healthy food such as nuts, fruit and low fat crackers stocked up and close to hand.

Sugary drinks are again very bad for a slim, trim figure so try and replace these drinks with either plain water or a nice flavored water that you enjoy to drink. Don't drink too much fresh fruit juice or smoothies because although they may be quite healthy they also pile on the pounds.

A final tip would be to trying and exercise at least 15 minutes a day if you can and again a routine will help with this. Sit ups or crunches are a great form of exercise to get slim again after pregnancy because they not only help you lost weight around the stomach but also tone up the abs. You could also leave the car at home and walk to the local store with baby in buggy instead. You'll be surprised how just a few simple steps can make a big difference
